Explore Nia Movement – Experience the Fun!!!
What is it? Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts such as Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance, yoga, Alexander Technique and Teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais.
Why do it? It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit.
How does it work? Classes are experienced in bare feet, are an hour in length and combine 52 unique moves to different types of world music. The moves correspond to the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. There are three intensity levels to meet the needs of beginners to the more experienced exerciser.
Joan Scanlon, certified Nia Movement instructor, leads the West Chester class every Tuesday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. In the prime of her life, Joan defies the aging process by moving with the grace and agility of someone half her age.
